“Head Games: The Worldwide Sports Concussion Crisis”

January 13, 2014

“Head Games: The Worldwide Sports Concussion Crisis” is the title of the
next Cary Lecture on Saturday, January 25 at 8 pm at Cary Hall, 1605
Massachusetts Ave., Lexington.

Our lecturer, Chris Nowinski is a former Harvard football player and
professional wrestler who experienced concussion and post-concussion syndrome
himself. He became aware of a worldwide crisis in sports head injuries, and
that led him to his present work. Nowinski will explore the latest findings
on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a devastating disease that may be more
widespread than originally thought. He will also discuss the culture war
over head injury and sports policy. Nowinski is co-director of Boston
University’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy and president
of the Sports Legacy Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to
solving the sports concussion crisis. We particularly encourage parents and
teens involved in youth sports to attend.

Tickets for the Cary Lecture Series are free and available online at Copies of Chris Nowinski’s book Head Games will
be available for sale and signing after the lecture and Q&A.
